What Gets Funded
The mission of the Dennis Friends Foundation (DFF) is to fund initiatives that promote, support, and provide for the effective, loving, compassionate well-being of dogs, cats and horses. DFF limits grants geographically to New Mexico, Colorado and the District of Columbia.
DFF funds programs that promote a focused goal of keeping animals at home with their loving families. Applications should include program metrics used by the organization to measure success. Programs and/or projects should fit into one of the following four categories:
- Spay and Neuter
- Services for Emergency Veterinary, Food, and Care Services
- Programs that Support Humane Animal and Human Bonds
- Animal Services Organizational Planning and Capacity Building
Grant request amounts will be reviewed in three categories: up to $5,000, Up to $25,000 and over $25,000. Generally DFF funds programs that directly benefit dogs. DFF does not fund political advocacy or lobbying programs. We receive requests for more funding that is available; grant awards are competitive, and board decisions are final.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply if I don’t have a 501(c)3 classification?
We accept applications from only 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations and eligible governmental entities, meeting IRS guidelines for charitable contributions. Additionally, we do not make grants to individuals.
Do you make exceptions to the 20% administrative cost criteria?
No. Dennis’ fondest wish was that his contributions directly benefit animals. Therefore, we look for groups who are providing the most care and services using the least administrative resources.
Does your foundation accept donations?
Absolutely yes! We gratefully accept contributions, especially in honor or memory of beloved pets.
